In response to numerous requests from the English-speaking community, the Samariter-Verein in Riehen offers the following courses with instruction in English:
- Simple First Aid for Parents
- Practical First Aid for Parents
- Basic Life Support for Parents

The participants in this course learn basic first aid methods using simple, improvised materials. Topics covered include
- action at an emergency
- assessing a casualty
- dealing with choking
- controlling serious bleeding
- internal injury
- burns
- fractures
- insect stings

The participants in this course learn basic first aid methods using materials commonly found in first aid kits. Topics covered include
- action at an emergency
- assessing a casualty
- treating wounds
- bruises and sprains
- heat problems
- spinal injury

The participants in this course learn the methods of Basic Life Support (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation). Topics covered include
- action at an emergency
- assessing a casualty
- dealing with choking
- basic life support on infants
- basic life support on children from 1- 8 years of age
- basic life support on older children

Course times: 2 ½ hour per course, Sunday, date as arranged.
Cost: Depending on course, Fr. 300.– to 350.– for a class of 8–12 persons.
Each course is independent of the other two courses and has its own certificate of attendance.
The courses can be done in any order.
The courses are presented by a qualified first aid trainer whose mother tongue is English. Visual aids and practical work are in English.
